Thoughtful Thursday - August 10th

Thoughtful Thursday, a time-honoured tradition that has seen the esteemed writings of Chiro.London’s finest. Who could forget the spring-time updates from Matilda, the marketing magic from Tom, the astonishing admin from Andrea, and the debonair dialogue from Drew? Now it’s my turn, buckle up!

Clinic updates
Supposedly we are in the midst of summer, although I have never been more pale in my life, and after a spring cleaning it’s time for a summer shake-up.

Kew’s Lucy White has spread her wings and headed east to join the team at Fulham, and will now be splitting her time between the two clinics – lucky us! You’ll find her at Kew on Tuesday mornings, Wednesday lunch and afternoons, and Friday and Saturday mornings and lunchtimes, and at Fulham on Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings, and Friday afternoons.

Fulham have also welcomed Pauline Seidel to their chiro team! Hailing from Germany, Pauline discovered chiropractic at a young age and studied at Bournemouth before moving to London. You’ll find her at our Marvic House clinic Tuesdays to Saturdays.

But while Pauline and Lucy have joined Fulham, Silva Harris will sadly be departing the team to join the rabble at Marylebone instead. Silva’s already working Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons at Marylebone but will go full-time there from August 21st. Her last day at Fulham will be Saturday, August 19th.

Marylebone will also be saying a fond farewell to Elle Cafra as she makes the pilgrimage back to Australia. (I am sure the extra vitamin D will be a sufficient parting gift). Her last day there will be Sunday, August 20th.

In other news, the summer vibes continue with the Refer a Friend promo, which has been extended until September 1st! There has been a fantastic response across all the clinics so far, and it’s been great to be able to help our new clients experience the benefits of chiropractic, while rewarding you for being excellent friends at the same time!

Shameless Plug: less of a plug, more of a musing
As an Aussie, it has been a great year for sport. The Australian women’s cricket team took the Ashes, there are now two Aussies on the F1 grid, the Matildas are through to the quarter finals of the football World Cup, and the Diamonds just secured the netball World Cup in South Africa. However, there was one moment that gave me pause during the men’s Ashes… (British cricket fans, you may want to skip this next paragraph – Ed.)

As a brief summary, in cricket you need to protect your stumps (the skinny sticks behind the batter). That’s the aim of the game, and if the ball hits the stumps you are out. Simple right? So, an English batsman, Johnny Bairstow, let the ball hit his stumps. A seemingly ordinary event in an ordinary game. But no, the outrage was immediate. English fans hurled abuse, the tabloids were aflame with accusations of cheating, Twitter (or “X”) was inconsolable. And all the fury was the same – what the Aussies had done was “not in the spirit of cricket”.

What does that mean? Well, the anger was not at what the Australians did, but how/why they did it. I’d never seen anything like it in my lifetime of watching sport, and as the chatter around the match died down, it left me with the question: what do I do in my day-to-day where I’m more focused on what I am doing, rather than how/why I am doing it?

Am I too focused on trying to make my weekend productive, even though it stresses me out? Maybe I’m entitled to that lazy day. Meeting another friend for drinks even though I’ve been feeling under the weather all week? Maybe an alcohol-free day isn’t a bad idea. Sure, I’m doing all the right things during my working hours, but am I happy doing it? Maybe it’s worth finding ways to rediscover my joy whilst at work.

As the social months come to a close, and as the long days transition to longer nights, take the time to check in and see how you’re doing, and ask yourself why and how you’re doing what you’re doing. Your body and mind will thank you for it.

Signing Off
That’s all from me. In the meantime, be kind to yourselves and make the most of the remainder of summer: have a lie in, make a big brekkie, read a book in the afternoon sun, watch that final episode whilst eating that final scoop of ice cream. See you next month.

Ciao for now,
Cameron
